Jon Liu Therapy
Therapy for anxiety, trauma and feeling stuck
You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone
When your mind goes too fast, the past keeps coming back up, or you feel overwhelmed by everything you're carrying, it can be hard to know where to start.
Therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what's happening, and find a way forward.
Virtual therapy for clients in Illinois, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.
Maybe You've Been Carrying Too Much on Your Own
You might look like you have everything together on the outside, while inside feels like a storm.
Maybe you're:
Constantly worrying or overthinking
Replaying conversations and wondering if you said the wrong thing
Feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start
Carrying the effects of something painful from your past
Struggling in a relationship or navigating a difficult life transition
You may not even know exactly what needs to change. You just know that things can’t stay like this.
You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy.
Hi, I’m Jon
I would describe my therapy style as warm and conversational with an analytical approach to solving problems.
Before becoming a therapist, I was a teacher. The part of teaching I valued most wasn't the subject matter, but the relationships I built with my students and helping them navigate the challenges they were facing both in and out of school. That realization eventually led me to a career in therapy.
I'm a Taiwanese-Cantonese American who grew up overseas. My own experience of navigating different cultures and sometimes feeling like an outsider has shaped the way I understand connection, identity, and belonging.
I work with people experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and the feeling of being stuck. My goal is to create a space where you can be honest, feel understood, and work through things without fear of judgment.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
Therapy for Anxiety and Trauma
I use different therapeutic approaches depending on what you’re experiencing and what will be most helpful:
CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy provides a framework for understanding the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It can help identify patterns that contribute to anxiety and develop more helpful ways of responding.
EMDR
EMDR can help people process difficult or traumatic experiences that continue to affect how they feel, think, or respond in the present.
Internal Family Systems
IFS offers a way to understand the different parts of ourselves that may develop in response to our experiences. It can help you approach those parts with greater curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.
For Those Who Know What It's Like to Feel Caught Between Worlds
As a Taiwanese-Cantonese American who grew up overseas, I've experienced what it can feel like to navigate different cultures, expectations, and ways of seeing the world.
For some people, those experiences can bring questions about identity, family, belonging, relationships, and complicated feelings about who you're “supposed” to be.
You don't have to fit neatly into one box to have a place in therapy.
If you've ever felt like you're on the outside looking in, or feel out of place, I want therapy to be a place where you don't have to explain or defend every part of yourself.
Your values, culture, relationships, and beliefs are part of who you are. If your Christian faith is important to you, we can incorporate it into our work. If you'd prefer a secular approach, that's welcome too.
Therapy Wherever You Are
I provide secure, 100% virtual therapy for clients located in Illinois, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.
Whether you're at home, taking a break during the workday, or finding a quiet space that feels comfortable, telehealth makes it possible to make therapy part of your life without the hassle of traveling.
You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
Maybe you're not sure whether therapy is right for you.
Maybe you know you need something to change but aren't sure where to begin.
That's okay.
You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you need from therapy. You can simply start by telling me what's been going on.
From there, we'll figure out the next step together.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
